SafetyNed

SafetyNed is an integrated, MyriaNed based wireless sensor network that helps people who work under difficult circumstances. The MyriaNed network is selforganizing, lightweight, energy efficient and robust. SafetyNed is a real-time monitoring system that measures physical and environmental parameters. The system alerts when preset boundaries are exceeded. Warnings are given to the user, his buddy and supervisor by flashing L.E.D. and acoustic signals. In other words, when users are in danger and every second counts, help can start immediately and SafetyNed can make a life-saving difference.

HEARTRATE

Firefighters face an unique stress to the cardiovascular system. The heartrate increases as a result of environmental heat exposure and high workloads. SafetyNed alerts when the user is in risk and needs a break or a cooling down.

HUMITURE

Temperature and humidity regulation is critical for our survival. Elevating the body’s temperature only a few degrees for any length of time and unintended consequences occur. (Heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heat stroke.) When the body temperature inside or outside the suit gets too high, the system alerts.

POSITION

Every movement and position of the user is visible. Heat cramps are muscular pains and spasms that occur when the body loses electrolytes during profuse sweating or when inadequate electrolytes are taken into the body. This is one example of the many risks which need to be taken into account. When a ‘man-down’ situation occurs, a warning is given.

HAZARDOUS GASSES

One of the major hazards associated with firefighting operations could possibly be the toxic environment created by combustible materials. Once the level of hazardous gasses is exceeded, SafetyNed activates the alarm and treatment must be implemented quickly to avoid serious complications.

SafetyNed is an effective tool for evaluation, training, testing, and management of equipment. In the future our innovations will proceed and extra functionalities will be added.
